The Wilbur Theatre was opened in 1914 and helped launch the career of Marlon Brando, who performed there in a 1947 production of A Streetcar Named Desire. Other big names to perform at the Wilbur Theatre include Marisa Tomei, Quentin Tarantino, Fred Astaire and Ethel Barrymore. Architecturally, the Wilbur was the first theater in Boston to draw its inspiration from the American Colonial period and features numerous authentic touches, including the front porticos.
