Captain Boycott

Captain Boycott

Boston Center for the Arts
539 Tremont Street Boston

With striking imagery, masks and giant papier-mâché puppets, the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater tells a powerful tale about the fight against oppression in three chapters. Chapters one and two set the story with a modern retelling of Antigone and a history of the horizontalists' economic philosophy. The third chapter deals with occurrences of military and economic oppression. Captain Boycott is presented as part of Bread and Puppet's nine-day residency in the spectacular Cyclorama. Sourdough rye will be served and cheap art will be available for purchase after the show. Led by artist Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet first made its mark in the experimental theater movement of the '60s and '70s in New York, and now makes its way to the stage of the Boston Center for the Arts.
