A Disappearing Number

Central Square Theater
450 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge

Drama, comedy and traditional Indian music and dance weave an immersive love story that combines the clashes of culture, the seductiveness of new ideas and the mystery of mathematics. The play, inspired by the early 20th-century collaboration of Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and Cambridge University don G.H. Hardy, interweaves the intellectual relationship of the mathematicians with the present-day story of an Indian-American businessman and his wife. Produced by Underground Railway Theater (URT), A Disappearing Number won the 2007 Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics' Circle Theatre Awards for Best New Play.
