Let's face it, the holidays can be a challenge. Sometimes it takes a real team effort to make it through. Never has this been more true than in Kate Benson's black comedy A Beautiful Day in November on the Banks of the Greatest of the Great Lakes, the latest offering from Boston's Apollinaire Theatre Company at Chelsea Theatre Works. The play transforms a family's Thanksgiving dinner into a fiercely competitive sport. A pair of broadcast announcers provide analysis, play-by-play and color commentary as you watch members of the Wembley clan battle it out for familial superiority, and their unusually macabre dealings will make the tensions that arise between you and your relatives seem like kid's stuff. Undeniably dark but also blisteringly funny, A Beautiful Day will have even the most dysfunctional families saying, "Well, at least we aren't that bad."
