Her tale is lined with unexplainable happenings that make one question the imagination's impulse to make logical sense of something otherworldly. That constant fight to believe in (or not) the presence of phenomena seems to be at the core of Hnath's narrative here (Hnath also tackles belief in his play "The Christians" about a preacher who doesn't believe in hell and says so). And how that stance informs one's outlook."

"...The script’s lack of technical elements is somewhat effective, but Hnath isn’t willing to stick with that strategy. The second half of the show features some lighting changes, abrupt but subtle. The sound design includes the use of a cinematic technique: the sound of a building rumble suggests a sense of impending doom…or something. Key moments that call for a glass to shatter or a loud bang come off as muddy — they do not deliver the desired shock impact."

"...Still, it doesn’t explain everything about what we will see on stage, the scary stories which emerge, and what happens with the actual audience in the show’s last moments. I’m still not sure. It held me though, and the matinee I went to featured a real medium in the lobby afterward who “tapped into messages” from the attendees who signed up for her post-show seance."
