In this much loved comedy by Robert Harling, six women of different backgrounds, ages and beliefs regularly gather at Truvy's beauty salon in Louisiana to share gossip, memories, joy and grief. Based on the playwright's upbringing in Louisiana and filled with humor and heartbreak, Steel Magnolias was made into a 1989 film featuring Sally Field, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts. Paula Plum directs for Stoneham Theatre. The ensemble includes local and company favorite Kathy St. George.
