The Secret Garden
395 Main Street Stoneham
One of the most beloved children's books of all time makes its way to the stage of the Stoneham Theatre. A musical that took home three Tony Awards (including Best Book of a Musical) for its original Broadway run in 1991, The Secret Garden transports audiences to a lonely old house on a windswept moor, in which a grieving widower and his sickly son spend their days lonely, lost and haunted by the ghosts of departed loved ones. Enter Mary, a sour young orphan who's come there to live with her uncle. It isn't long before she discovers a locked garden that's been left to grow wild and uncared for -- much like Mary herself. Her subsequent quest to find the key and restore the garden uncovers startling secrets and a family tragedy. With the help of her new friend Dickon and her cousin Colin, Mary brings new life to the garden and to her grief-stricken uncle. Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman (The Color Purple and 'night, Mother) with music by Lucy Simon (Doctor Zhivago), this lush musical delivers a magical theatrical experience.
