Come From Away at Citizens Bank Opera House in Boston

Boston is in for a treat as the Broadway hit musical "Come From Away" will be coming to the Citizens Bank Opera House. The show is set to run from August 8th to August 13th, according to the recent announcement made by Broadway in Boston. This is a unique musical that tells the story of the little town in Newfoundland, Canada, that took in 7,000 stranded passengers during the 9/11 attacks.

The musical has been successful all across North America, winning the 2017 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, 4 Olivier Awards (London), including Best New Musical, and 5 Outer Critics Circle Awards (NYC), including Outstanding New Broadway Musical. "Come From Away" is written by Tony nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein and directed by Tony Award-winning director Christopher Ashley.

The musical is based on true events that took place in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, during the week following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. 38 planes carrying approximately 7,000 passengers were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander. Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships. The residents of Gander opened their hearts and homes to the stranded passengers, providing shelter, food, and emotional support during one of the darkest times in American history. The musical, titled "Come From Away," tells the touching story of the unlikely bonds formed between strangers in a time of crisis and celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. With powerful music and heartwarming performances, this production reminds us of the importance of kindness, compassion, and community in the face of tragedy.
