SpeakEasy Stage Company is bringing a provocative glimpse of humanity's future to Boston this March with the New England premiere of THE ANTIQUITIES by Pulitzer Prize finalist Jordan Harrison. The production runs from March 6 through 28, 2026, in the Roberts Studio Theatre at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion.

THE ANTIQUITIES takes audiences on a fascinating journey to a museum of the distant future, where curators work to reconstruct the lost civilization of humanity. These dedicated scholars grapple with fundamental questions about what humans were truly like: their fashion choices, their eating habits, and ultimately, what led to their extinction. The Wall Street Journal praised Harrison's work as a "brilliantly imagined drama for anyone whose computer has ever asked them to prove that they're a human."

What makes this play particularly timely is its exploration of our current moment in history, caught between an analog past and an increasingly digital future. Harrison's script offers both humor and insight as it examines humanity from an outsider's perspective, forcing audiences to confront questions about what defines us and what we might be leaving behind.

Boston-based director Alex Lonati returns to SpeakEasy after helming their production of Cost of Living. Lonati, known throughout the city for her work as a director, producer, educator, and accessibility advocate, brings her distinctive vision to Harrison's thought-provoking text.

The production features an ensemble cast including Harry Baker, Catia, Kelsey Fonise, Jesse Hinson, John Kuntz, Alison Russo, Anderson Stinson III, Helen Hy-Yuen Swanson, and Tobias Wilson. The creative team includes scenic designers Christopher and Justin Swader, costume designer Lila B. West, lighting designer Amanda E. Fallon, sound designer Anna Drummond, and props designer Julia Wonkka. Shira Helena Gitlin serves as intimacy director, with fight choreography by Margaret Clark and dialect coaching by Rebecca Schneebaum.

THE ANTIQUITIES continues SpeakEasy Stage Company's 35th season at the Boston Center for the Arts, located at 527 Tremont Street. Tickets start at just $15, with additional discounts available for students, seniors, veterans, and patrons age 35 and under. With only four weeks of performances scheduled, theatre lovers won't want to miss this opportunity to experience Harrison's acclaimed meditation on what it means to be human.
