Merrimack Repertory Theatre presents Glengarry Glen Ross

Glengarry Glen Ross BostonSalesmen in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office are pitted against each other in a brutal zero-sum battle for the best leads. With jobs on the line, each man must decide how far to go to make a sale in "Glengarry Glen Ross," the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Mamet, directed by Charles Towers.

When the play first opened in New York in 1984, Frank Rich in the New York Times wrote "Crackling tension...ferocious comedy and drama. A top American playwright in bristling form."

Director Charles Towers says "David Mamet's fast-paced and riveting comedy/drama made an immediate impression when it premiered thirty years ago and is now considered an American masterpiece. Its themes of vulture capitalism and shady financial practices are timelier than ever. In order to depict the rough world of fiercely competitive men, Mamet skillfully uses his trademark profanity for both comic and dramatic effect. This play is not for the linguistically-squeamish. But it is a must for anyone who wants to experience the thrill of genuinely muscular American playwriting."

The cast of "Glengarry Glen Ross" will feature several faces familiar to MRT audience members. Returning to the MRT stage are David Adkins (Williamson), Joel Colodner (Baylen), Will LeBow (Levene), Jim Ortlieb (Aaronow) and Jeremiah Wiggins (Lingk). Todd Licea (Roma) and Charlie Kevin (Moss) will make their MRT debuts. The creative team for "Glengarry Glen Ross" consists of Bill Clarke (Scenic Designer), Brian Lilienthal (Lighting Designer), and Deb Newhall (Costume Designer), who have all designed multiple productions at MRT.

David Mamet was born in Chicago in 1947. He studied at Goddard College in Vermont and at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of Theater in New York. He has taught at Goddard College, the Yale Drama School and New York University and lectures at New York's Atlantic Theater Company, of which he is a founding member. He is the author of the plays "The Cryptogram," "Oleanna," "Speed-The-Plow," "Glengarry Glen Ross," "American Buffalo," and "Sexual Perversity in Chicago". He has also written screenplays for such films as "House of Games" and the Oscar-nominated "The Verdict," as well as "The Spanish Prisoner," "The Winslow Boy," and "Wag the Dog." His plays have won the Pulitzer Prize and the Obie Award. MRT has previously produced Mamet's "Boston Marriage," "Speed-The-Plow," and "Oleanna."

"Glengarry Glen Ross" runs at Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) from April 25-May 19. Tickets begin at just $20 and are on sale now thru MRT.org or by calling 978-654-4678.
