This modern take on Thornton Wilder's poignant comedy-drama Our Town sets out on a journey to somewhere in the middle in search of the meaning of life. American Repertory Theater presents Middletown, Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno's wry, bittersweet 2010 play that zooms in on the everyday existences of the citizens of Middletown and holds a microscope to small-town American life. At the heart of this sweet and disturbing exploration, Eno highlights our tender struggle for human connection and how we're all looking for a little meaning in this mystery we call life, revealing universal themes of love, birth, death, loneliness, elation, forgiveness, disappointment and redemption -- and offering the revelation that nothing is truly ordinary.
