Langston Hughes' Black Nativity -- a joyous account of the nativity told through scripture, verse, music and dance -- is a true Christmastime tradition, and National Center of Afro-American Artists' captivating production is the longest-running performance of the Harlem Renaissance poet's song-play in the world. First performed in 1961, Black Nativity is a retelling of the Christmas story from an Afro-centric perspective, and mixes text from the Gospel of Saint Luke with black vernacular. A cast of children and adults brings this timeless story to life with music and dancing in this uplifting production for the whole family. Experience this Boston tradition at Paramount Center.

Based on the Charles Dickens classic, A CHRISTMAS CAROL is an original adaptation by former NSMT Artistic Director Jon Kimbell and members of the NSMT staff, following Ebenezer Scrooge through a series of strange and magical ghostly encounters, where he ultimately discovers the true spirit of the holiday season. With dazzling special effects that have grown even more exciting over time, traditional and original songs, and colorful costumes, A CHRISTMAS CAROL has become a holiday favorite throughout New England having been seen by more than one million people since 1989.

The opportunity to be part of a radio program's live studio audience is becoming a bygone treat. There are fewer and fewer chances to have the action unfold right in front of your eyes and ears, with your own oohs, aahs and guffaws becoming part of the broadcast. Thankfully the heartwarming stage play Christmas on the Air takes you back to that special time and puts you back in the action. The year is 1949, and station director Percival B. Frank and the employees of CKOS Radio are broadcasting their annual Christmastime show, complete with music, classic holiday songs and cues for the audience to follow. Treat the whole family to this nostalgic show at Stoneham Theatre.

Back in 1963, the legendary star of stage and screen Judy Garland starred in a now-iconic Christmas special on CBS. Today tribute artist Peter Mac steps into Garland's high heels in a salute to this beloved TV event. Mac, a self-described "male actress" who's portrayed the late, great actress to audiences and critical acclaim for more than a decade, is known for his seriously fun and loving tributes to Garland. Famed for bringing a nuanced glimpse into Garland's complex personality and inner life, Mac was awarded a Golden Halo Award by Garland's co-stars Mickey Rooney and Margaret O'Brien for his stunningly accurate portrayal. But his tribute talents don't stop with Judy: For this festive yuletide show, "guests" are set to include uncanny approximations of Liza Minnelli, Bea Arthur and Ethel Merman.

Starring Peter J. Fogel, this hilarious show highlights a totally different evening of family dysfunction. Once everybody arrives home at grandma's house, the riotous holiday celebration begins, where if you're under age 55 you still sit at the kids' table and 35 overfed people share one toilet. From Rudolph, the reindeer who tries to conceal his very shiny nose before he realizes it's the only thing that can save Christmas, to his pals Clarice, Hermey the Elf, Yukon Cornelius, Santa and Mrs. Claus and even Bumble the Abominable Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical brings this fun, festive adventure to life. In addition to the classic title song by Johnny Marks, the show features great tunes like "There's Always Tomorrow," "Silver and Gold," "A Holly Jolly Christmas" and more. Along the way, she battles witches, encounters fantastical characters, and flies through the frozen air on a steampunk odyssey. Cowritten and directed by former New Rep Artistic Director, Rick Lombardo, The Snow Queen is sure to enchant the entire family this holiday season.

Combining ballet, swing, flamenco, hip-hop, step and urban tap along with Tchaikovsky's classic score and Duke Ellington's signature swing, Tony Williams' Urban Nutcracker features a multicultural cast of talented dancers in this contemporary retelling of the classic fairy tale. Now in its 15th year, the production remains fresh with updated choreography, new costumes and surprise guest stars. Instead of the traditional children's roles "Clara" and "Fritz," though, this version of the story features the characters Clarice and Omar, whose roles are shared by six talented local kids, ages 9-13.
