Dancing Wilde

Dancing Wilde

Boston Playwrights' Theatre
949 Commonwealth Ave Boston

A pair of fairy tales by famed Irish writer Oscar Wilde are adapted into movement by Boston Actors Theater to wrap up its 10th anniversary season. The witty Wilde is famed for his works The Importance of Being Earnest and The Picture of Dorian Gray, but he goes rather dark with his these two parables, which he admitted were "intended neither for the British child nor the British public." The Young King tells of a shepherd who feels guilty about the riches that await him upon his unexpected coronation, while The Birthday of the Infanta recounts the sad story of a dwarf who's unaware he's an object of amusement for the Infanta, a young princess.
